School: Texas
Class: Redshirt Senior
Position: EDGE
HT: 6’3
WT: 249 lbs
Background: Trey Moore was an unranked edge rusher out of San Antonio in the class of 2021. Trey was the District Defensive Player of the Year as a senior for Smithson Valley High School with 19 TFLs and 8 sacks. He was an all-area and honorable mention academic all-state selection. After his senior season, he was selected to play in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Game. Moore received a handful of Group of 5 offers, ultimately choosing UTSA.
College: He was one of the most dominant defenders in the country during his time with the Roadrunners. In 2022, he set the UTSA record with 18 TFLs. That was a season in which he was named a Freshman All-American by numerous outlets. He was also a Conference USA honorable mention selection. He followed that up by breaking the UTSA sack record in 2023 with 14. He was the AAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-AAC. After two incredible seasons at UTSA, Moore transferred to Texas. As a junior in 2024, he tallied 6.5 sacks and 10.5 TFLs. His production took a dip in 2025, notching 5 TFLs and 3 sacks on the season.
Strengths: Trey Moore is an incredible mover on the edge. His 4.54 second 40-yard dash goes to show that he is electric on his feet. He is a hawk in pursuit, chasing down the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage with unmatched speed. As a pass rusher, Moore explodes into the point of attack and can win with athleticism, speed, and finesse to leave offensive tackles in the dust. He has an effective spin move and euro step in the phone booth that has proven to be too much for even the elite offensive linemen. He can get to the football from the other side of the field due to his elite athletic traits. His athletic traits allow him to drop into coverage as an off-ball linebacker and even man up against running backs and tight ends.
Weaknesses: Moore does not have the length you want in an edge rusher. He may be better suited as a 3-4 outside linebacker who can drop back into coverage just as much as he rushes off the edge. His upper body does not have the strength to knock offensive linemen off their anchor. His hands are quick but do not do enough to shed blocks or untangle him. Moore cannot win with strength alone. He does not pack the muscle to do so, and will rely on his elite movement skills to win reps.
Conclusion: Trey Moore is an athletic and speedy edge rusher who will likely have a future as a 3-4 outside linebacker due to his lack of length and power, but his elite movement ability. He is not a liability in coverage and can provide a little extra beef to the linebacker position.
