School: Florida

Class: Redshirt Senior

Position: EDGE

HT: 6’2

WT: 274 lbs

Background: Tyreak Sapp was a consensus 4-star defensive lineman out of Fort Lauderdale in the 2021 class. Sapp played for a national powerhouse in St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He was a top 15 player in Florida and top 15 defensive lineman in the class. After his senior season, he was chosen to play in the All-American Bowl. Sapp committed to Florida over Alabama, Miami, and others.

College: Tyreak redshirted as a freshman in 2021 before becoming a mainstay in the defensive line rotation in 2022. As a redshirt sophomore in 2023, Sapp started in all 11 games he appeared in. He totaled 24 tackles, 2 sacks, and 4.5 TFLs in his first season as a starter. Sapp led the team with 7 sacks and 13 TFLs in 2024, beginning to put it all together. 2025 was Tyreak’s final season as a Gator. As a senior, he recorded 34 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss.

Strengths: Tyreak Sapp is a physically imposing edge rusher with plenty of size to keep up with the battle of strength and mass in the phone booth. Sapp plays with a strong lower half, which shows up especially in the run game. He anchors contain at the line of scrimmage, forcing ball carriers to attempt bouncing the ball to the perimeter. Single blocks from offensive tackles do not do enough to displace Sapp, offenses are forced to send combo blocks Sapp’s way.

Weaknesses: Sapp is not a quick mover and seriously lacks lateral agility. His footwork along the line leaves plenty to be desired. He is slow to the point of attack out of his stance. His lack of first step quickness allows offensive tackles to get out with a wide kick step and set an anchor before engaging. Sapp has a high missed tackle percentage, often trying to make up for his lack of speed by lunging at the ball carrier prematurely.

Conclusion: Tyreak Sapp is the classic case of a defensive player caught in between 2 positions. He is too big to be a well-rounded edge rusher, but does not posses the mass to be a true 3-tech. If his frame is not maxed out, it would be best for Sapp to add muscle to his frame and permanently kick inside.
