Position: EDGE
HT: 6’3
WT: 256 lbs
Background: Derrick Moore was a top 50 player in the 2022 class. Moore is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, where he played for St. Frances Academy. He was a top 10 defensive lineman in the class and top 3 player in Maryland. Moore was a member of a St. Frances team that earned a No. 1 ranking in the state in his senior season. Derrick was named the 2021 MaxPreps Maryland High School Football Player of the Year. After his high school career, he was selected to participate in the Under Armour All-American Game, where he was named MVP of the game with 2 sacks. Derrick Moore committed to play for Michigan over Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and others.
College: As a true freshman in 2023 for the Wolverines, Moore got 2 sacks. He was an all-Big 10 honorable mention as a sophomore after tallying 6 TFLs and 5 sacks in 15 games. 2024 was another All-Big 10 honorable mention for Moore with 6 TFLs and 4 sacks. Moore put it all together in 2025, notching career highs across the board as a senior. He totaled 10.5 TFLs and 10 sacks on his way to an All-Big 10 First Team selection.
Strengths: Derrick Moore brings good size and length as an edge rusher. He has long arms to initiate contact in the phone booth. Moore plays with strength to win any rep. He has a bullrush that knocks offensive tackles off their anchor and effectively into the pocket. He explodes out of his stance and into the point of attack to win with pure power. Moore generates momentum with his legs, fluidly transitioning that strength to his upper body and into his opponent. As a run defender, Moore does well to clog gaps and contain the edge.
Weaknesses: Moore does not shed blocks quickly on the edge and tends to get displaced by combo blocks. He gets too comfortable at the line of scrimmage instead of working to get into the backfield. When trying to deconstruct blocks, Moore does not have the quickest hands to shed grips. As a pass rusher, he is a stiff mover who does not possess the bend to get around the edge efficiently. His ankle flexion leaves much to be desired.
Conclusion: Derrick Moore is a power rusher who can contribute in all areas of defense. He is not the best mover and his lateral agility is lackluster. While his stiff movement prevents him from being an all-around game wrecker, he can be deployed as an edge rusher who sets a tone of strength and physicality.
