Background: Josh Cameron was an unranked and unrecruited wide receiver in the 2021 recruiting class out of Cedar Park, Texas. Cameron was a first team all-district selection as both a junior and a senior for Cedar Park High School. He was also the team Offensive MVP after leading them to a trip to the state championship game.
College: Cameron ultimately decided to walk-on at Baylor. He did not record any stats as a true freshman in 2021 but had a breakout 2022 and earned a scholarship. By 2024, Cameron was one of the better playmakers in the country. He was an All-American punt returner and First Team All-Big 12 selection. His best season as a receiver came in 2025. He totaled 69 receptions for 872 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Strengths: Cameron proved himself year in and year out as a return specialist for Baylor. He is dangerous in open space with the ball in his hands. He is an elusive runner who makes it difficult for defenders to bring him down to the ground. Arm tackles pose no threat to Cameron as he can easily slip through. Cameron has reliable hands to catch away from his frame and in traffic. His strength is on full display in contested catch situations. His fluid movement allows him to line up all over the offense. His football IQ is on full display with the way he is able to understand defensive coverage from a wide range of alignments.
Weaknesses: Cameron does have the movement skills of an elite wide receiver, but he lacks true route running nuance. He telegraphs his breaks with choppy feet and does not create separation at the stems of routes. He struggles to create separation in tight spaces in the short to intermediate areas and relies too heavily on his vertical separation.
Conclusion: Josh Cameron is a fluid athlete with reliable hands and elusiveness with the ball in his hands. He is one of the best return specialists in the country and will be looked at as both a wide receiver and returner in the NFL.
