School: Georgia State

Class: Senior

Position: WR

HT: 6’3

WT: 195 lbs

Background: Ted Hurst was an unrecruited wide receiver out of Savannah, Georgia. Hurst played his football for Johnson High School, where he was a first team all-region selection. Hurst’s options were limited out of high school, so he chose to go to Valdosta State.

College: As a freshman at Valdosta State, Hurst started 6 games and played in 11. He recorded 22 receptions for 431 yards and 6 touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2023, Hurst tallied 38 receptions for 596 yards and 4 touchdowns. After two seasons at Valdosta State, Hurst transferred to Georgia State. In his first season with the team, Hurst was an All-Sun Belt Second Team selection with 56 receptions for 961 yards and 9 touchdowns. He had a true breakout as a senior in 2025. Hurst was a First Team All-Sun Belt selection after recording 71 receptions for 1,004 yards.

Strengths: Hurst combines elite athleticism with a large frame to win on the boundary. Hurst stacks receivers well He has incredible burst off the line that puts defenders on their heels immediately. Despite his size, Hurst has alignment versatility to move all over the offense. He accelerates to his top speed so quickly that cornerbacks struggle in press coverage. In order to contain his straight-line speed, corners usually play with a bit of a cushion. This cushion that he is given allows him to work with space in the short area of the field. Hurst is a savvy route runner. He sinks his hips quickly and breaks on a dime.

Weaknesses: When cornerbacks match his strength or physicality, Hurst tends to get knocked off his route. Hurst is not creative with the ball in his hands. He lacks the elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Once he makes a catch, the play almost always ends soon after. Hurst needs to use his strength and size as a run blocker. He does well to initiate the block, but sustaining blocks down the field gives him trouble.

Conclusion: Ted Hurst is a freak athlete with the size and fluid movement skills to win all over the field. He is such a savvy route runner and wins in a large variety of ways. Hurst is a difficult player for defenses to contain. It will be interesting to see if his game can translate from the Sun Belt to the NFL, but he should be an NFL contributor within a few seasons.
