Background: Elijah Sarratt was an unrecruited wide receiver out of Stafford, Virginia. Elijah has a brother, Josh, who is a safety at James Madison. Sarratt played his high school ball for the prestigious St. Frances Academy. For St. Frances, Sarratt returned kicks, played wideout, and played defensive back. As a junior, Sarratt was an all-state defensive back and all-district returner and wide receiver. Elijah also played basketball for St. Frances. As an unrecruited athlete in the 2022 class, Sarratt chose to play for St. Francis University.

College: As a freshman, Sarratt was an FCS Freshman All-American and first team all-conference after catching 42 passes for 700 yards and 13 touchdowns. After such a prolific freshman season, Elijah transferred to play for Kurt Cignetti at James Madison. Sarratt was First Team All-Sun Belt in his first season with the team after posting 82 receptions for 1,191 yards and 8 touchdowns. A prolific season at James Madison led to Sarratt following Head Coach Kurt Cignetti to Indiana. In 2024, Sarratt was a Third Team All-Big 10 member as he had 53 receptions for 957 yards and 8 touchdowns. Sarratt won the national championship with Indiana in 2025 as a key contributor to the offense. He was an All-Big 10 Second Team selection after posting 65 receptions for 830 yards and 15 touchdowns. His 15 touchdowns led the nation.

Strengths: Elijah Sarratt is a tremendous route runner. He gets in and out of breaks well against man coverage, displaying the ability to create separation in tight areas. Sarratt also has an understanding of zone coverages and can sink into those soft spots of the zone to make for an easy and open target for his quarterback. He always manages to break off to the right stem in his route. In the deep areas of the field, Sarratt tracks the ball well. He shows late hands to keep the cornerback guessing and does not break stride to track the ball over his shoulder. Sarratt is a reliable and friendly target who can catch the ball far away from his body. He has an abnormally large catch radius. Even when he has to extend and pull a ball away from a contested window, he does so with an impressive level of strength.

Weaknesses: Sarratt does not possess the speed to take the top off a defense. He tends to be contained by faster and more physical defensive backs. He does not have that acceleration or explosiveness off the line to stack the cornerback. Sarratt is not too productive after the catch. He does not create too much in terms of yards after the catch.

Conclusion: Elijah Sarratt is a boundary receiver who can win with savvy route running and sure hands to complete the catching process. Sarratt’s speed will never be the focus of a scouting report, but he wins in other ways consistently.
