The Indianapolis Colts have been caught in somewhat of a purgatory of mediocrity. The flashes of greatness from Anthony Richardson in his brief rookie season did not carry over into his second stint. So much so that this upcoming year is make or break for the young QB in Indianapolis. Consistency from playcallers and a weaker secondary have been some of the more noticeable reasons for the Colts’ struggles.
Departures: Indianapolis said goodbye to TE Kylen Granson, C Ryan Kelly, IOL Will Fries, and EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo among others. When looking at the full picture, the Colts did not lose too much overall talent, but losing two starting interior offensive linemen before a season in which you need your raw dual-threat QB to take a huge step forward is not ideal.
Additions: After bringing in QB Daniel Jones midseason, the Colts signed him to a one-year deal as insurance behind Anthony Richardson. They also brought in CB Charvarius Ward 3-year $60M deal and SAF Camryn Bynum on a 4-year $60M deal. These additions spark a completely new image to the Colts’ secondary, but they did not replace the linemen they lost.
Draft Selections: In the draft, they managed to snag TE Tyler Warren on Day 1, a pick in which many seem to think is a home run. Other notable picks in their draft class include EDGE JT Tuimoloau, CB Justin Walley, QB RIley Leonard, and RB DJ Giddens.
The Colts made some big splashes in their secondary and with a solid front seven, they could be one of the most improved defenses in the league.
Season Predictions: They kick off the season at home for two games against the Dolphins and Broncos before going on the road for two against the Titans and Rams. The Colts will go 2-2 in September.
October sees the Colts host the Raiders and Cardinals, travel to take on the Chargers, and close the month at home against the Titans. Indy will go 2-2 in October.
In November, they go to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers, play the Falcons in a Europe game, have a Week 11 bye, and come back to play on the road against the Chiefs, and finish the month at home against the Texans. The Colts go 1-3 in November.
Indianapolis kicks off the final stretch of the season with two road games against the Jaguars and Seahawks before hosting the 49ers on Monday Night Football. They host the Jaguars before playing the Texans in Houston to end the year. They go 2-3 in the final stretch of games.
Final Thoughts: The Indianapolis Colts will go 7-10 in 2025. This record will keep them in that state of limbo, not knowing what direction the team is going. If those 7 wins are largely due to the defense and not due to progression from Anthony Richardson, they could be targeting a QB in the 1st round of the 2026 draft.
