The Buffalo Bills have been knocking on the door of a Super Bowl for the entirety of Josh Allen’s reign as the starter. Year after year, they figure out a way to give themselves another chance at winning the Lombardi.
After reaching the AFC Championship and arguably being closer than they have ever been, they will need to fill in some gaps on the roster in order to get back there.
Departures: GM Brandon Beane and his staff looked at the roster this offseason and cut some fat. Aging players with larger contracts or guys who have lost a step were left in 2024. CB Rasul Douglas, EDGEs Dawuane Smoot and Von Miller, WRs Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper, and DLs Jordan Phillips, Quinton Jefferson, and Austin Johnson are among the players not returning to Buffalo in 2025. Despite there being some huge names on that list, Mack Hollins might be the player the Bills miss most next season.
Additions: The Bills brought in WR Josh Palmer and EDGE Michael Hoecht to multi-year deals. They also brought in WR Elijah Moore, EDGE Joey Bosa, DT Larry Ogunjobi, and CBs Tre White and Dane Jackson on one-year deals. Hoecht and Ogunjobi will be serving PED suspensions to begin the season, limiting their potential production in 2025.
Draft Selections: Beane and staff recognized the Bills’ downfall in 2024 largely came on the defensive side of the ball. They chose to attack the defense in the draft. The first 5 picks of their draft class are all on the defensive side of the ball and all have a good chance of making the roster. CB Maxwell Hairston, IDL TJ Sanders, EDGE Landon Jackson, DT Deone Walker, and DB Jordan Hancock are coming in as reinforcements and will be looked at to make serious contributions.
Season Prediction: The Bills start the season at home on Sunday Night Football against the Ravens. They go on the road in Week 2 to play the Jets before returning to Buffalo to host the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football and then the Saints the following week. The Bills will go 3-1 in September.
Buffalo hosts the Patriots and go on the road to play the Falcons on Monday Night Football before a Week 7 bye. They travel to Carolina after the bye to close out the month of October. They will go 3-0 in October.
To start November, they host the Chiefs, then travel to play the Dolphins, play at home against the Buccaneers, and finish the month with back-to-back road games against the Texans (TNF) and Steelers. The Bills go 4-1 in November.
In the final stretch of games, the Bills host the Bengals, play road games against the Patriots and Browns, and then close the season out with two straight home games against the Eagles and Jets. Buffalo goes 3-2 in this last stretch of games.
I have the Buffalo Bills going 13-4 in 2025. This would be good enough to win the AFC East. The questions will arise when January rolls around and the Bills are battling the best of the best to reach the Super Bowl.
