School: BYU
Class: Redshirt Senior
Position: WR
HT: 6’4
WT: 210 lbs
Background: Chase Roberts was a 3-star wide receiver in the class of 2019 out of Highland, Utah. Roberts was a top 10 player in the state and a top 150 wide receiver nationally. Chase played for American Fork High School. Chase had 1,717 yards as a senior and was selected to participate in the Under Armour All-American Game. On top of his success on the field, Chase was an all-academic selection throughout high school. Chase’s father, Kyle, was a defensive back for BYU in the early 90’s. The family and faith connections ultimately led to Chase committing to play for BYU.
College: He served a full-time mission in Calgary, Alberta before joining the football program. Roberts redshirted 2021 before becoming a mainstay in 2022. As a redshirt freshman in ‘22, he recorded 22 receptions for 357 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2023, Roberts was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. He was also BYU’s leading receiver with 42 receptions, 573 yards, and 5 touchdowns. 2024 was Roberts’ best season as a Cougar. He was an All-Big 12 Third Team selection after recording 52 receptions for 854 yards and 4 touchdowns. Roberts was an All-Big 12 Third Team selection again in 2025 after posting 54 receptions for 802 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Strengths: Chase Roberts is an older but experienced prospect. He has the frame that NFL scouts look for from an X receiver. Not only does he have the size, but he uses the size to efficiently win matchups. Roberts makes himself a very friendly target for the quarterback. He has a large catch radius, catching footballs that are far away from his body or not necessarily routine catches. He tracks the ball well in the deep areas of the field, showing a smooth process while bringing it in over his shoulder. Roberts is a savvy route runner who has an extensive route tree. He can create separation in tight spaces with quick feet and unpredictable movement. Roberts is effective as a blocker and displays solid technique.
Weaknesses: His age may not be a concern, but it certainly limits the development potential in the NFL. There may not be a ton of room for growth in his game. On the boundary, cornerbacks seem to have success jamming him at the line. Roberts can get bullied by the bigger and stronger defenders off the line.
Conclusion: Chase Roberts has tools to be an effective X receiver. He should not be looked at as a player who can be a championship team’s WR1, but he can be a meaningful contributor. His ceiling is relatively limited, but his floor is also higher.
