School: Miami

Class: Redshirt Senior

Position: QB

HT: 6’4

WT: 225 lbs

Background: Carson Beck was a 4-star quarterback in the 2020 class out of Jacksonville, Florida. He was a top 300 player and top 30 player in Florida. Beck attended Mandarin High School, where he won a state title. He earned Florida Mr. Football honors as well as Florida Offensive Player of the Year. Along with being a top football recruit, Beck was also scouted for baseball. Beck chose Georgia over Alabama, Florida, and Miami.

College: Beck did not receive any significant action until he was named the starter in 2023. After waiting patiently behind Stetson Bennett, Beck gained the experience necessary to be a dynamic QB for the Bulldogs. In his first season as a starter, Beck passed for 3941 yards and 24 touchdowns. His passing yards were third most in the nation and the most in the SEC. He was an All-SEC Second Team selection. Beck started in 13 games for the Bulldogs in 2024 before going down with an elbow injury in the SEC championship game. Beck had his struggles as his passing yards decreased to 3485 and he had a total of 12 interceptions on the season. Beck ultimately decided to transfer to Miami for his final collegiate season, where he got back to playing like the former projected top 10 pick. He was a Third Team All-ACC selection after throwing for 3,313 yards and 27 touchdowns on a 74.4% completion percentage.

Strengths: Carson Beck has the arm talent to make any throw on the field from any spot. He displays the strength to push the ball down the field on go routes, while also being able to put touch on the ball to feather it into tight windows and past defenders on the boundary. Beck has a nice release to get the ball out quickly. He has good mechanics in both halves which allows for consistency in placement and velocity. His football IQ transcends just understanding coverages. While he shows the ability to diagnose a defense and scan the field quickly, he also understands in-game situations well. He does well attacking boundaries on the two minute drill to preserve clock. With his legs, Beck is a dangerous runner. He possesses a large frame that is hard to bring down in open space. He can lower his shoulder and fall forward for extra yardage when absolutely needed.

Weaknesses: When attacking defenses vertically, Beck waits too long for separation from his receiver and delays his throw. This either results in a slight underthrow or in pressure getting to him. While his mechanics are a strength, they get shaky when he attacks those deep routes. Disguises and unique blitz packages give Beck trouble in the pocket. Too many of his turnovers come from these unique looks from the defense. When the pocket collapses and structure breaks on Beck, he seems to get rattled. He makes poor reads and poor decisions far too often in these circumstances.

Conclusion: Carson Beck has both the physical and mental tools of a starting NFL QB. His bounce back season at Miami is proof that 2024 was a fluke. His frame is that of a prototypical quarterback and he makes NFL caliber throws consistently. His decision making under pressure can be improved in the right system in the NFL.
