School: Notre Dame
Class: Redshirt Junior
Position: OT
HT: 6’6
WT: 300 lbs
Background: Aamil Wagner was a 4-star, top 150 recruit in the 2022 recruiting class. Wagner played for Wayne High School in Dayton, Ohio, where he was a top 10 player in the state and top 15 offensive tackle in the class. Aamil was a first team all-state selection as both a junior and senior. He was selected to play in both the Polynesian Bowl and the All-American Bowl. Aamil Wagner committed to Notre Dame over Penn State, Maryland, Kentucky, and Ohio State.
College: Wagner did not see any game action in 2022 and was used as a reserve swing tackle in 2023. As a redshirt sophomore in 2024, Wagner started all 16 games for the Irish. That was a year in which Wagner won the Notre Dame Scholar-Athlete Award. Wagner was named a captain as a redshirt junior in 2025, once again starting every game for the Irish.
Strengths: Aamil Wagner is a versatile and athletic offensive tackle. He has lightning quick feet, allowing him to mirror defenders in pass protection. He has the recovery quickness in pass protection that makes it difficult for edge rushers to beat him off the first step. Not only is he quick, but he is a smooth operator. Every movement seems graceful and articulate. This movement translates to the run game as well. Wagner is a functional athlete who can get out in space and clear lanes as the lead blocker. He drives piles forward in muddy waters to guide the ball carrier to extra yards. At the line of scrimmage, Wagner’s hand placement puts him at an advantage on initial contact. He has an accurate punch that gets right into the chest of defenders before he uses torque to drive them up and off their rush.
Weaknesses: Wagner relies more on length than strength. He overextends himself and takes himself out of winning positions. His frame is far too lean for the offensive tackle position. Being sub-300 will not be serviceable at the next level; Wagner will need to add some serious muscle mass. While Wagner’s initial punch is accurate, his subsequent punches tend to be less effective. His lack of strength also shows up the longer a play develops. His block sustainability is questionable. He loses grip deeper into reps.
Conclusion: Aamil Wagner is a light-footed offensive tackle with high athletic upside. His frame is too lean to compete at the NFL level. His technique comes and goes but he has the traits and untapped potential of an NFL swing tackle.
