Many in the NFL media believed that the addition of Aaron Rodgers would, at the very least, lead the New York Jets to a playoff appearance. Unfortunately for Rodgers and the Jets, his two years as a Jet were a disaster. As the team moves on from the Rodgers era, they will try to move on and potentially sneak into the playoffs. In a loaded AFC and an ultra competitive AFC East, the outlook to make the playoffs seems unlikely.
On paper, the roster has been improved, which is a positive spin in the midst of a hefty playoff drought. They were able to retain and extend plenty of talent while letting certain players walk.
Departures: The Jets let go of notable players such as QB Aaron Rodgers, EDGE Haason Redick, WR Davante Adams, CB DJ Reed, IDL Javon Kinlaw, and TE Tyler Conklin. All of these players, besides maybe Redick, had a serious impact on the Jets. However, pushed up against the cap, the front office had to cut some fat from the roster.
Additions: In an effort to fill in the gaps, the Jets’ front office got somewhat active in free agency. Their offense is headlined by QB Justin Fields, who they brought in on a 2-year/$40M deal. Among other multi-year deals given by the Jets’ is CB Brandon Stephens, signing a 3-year/$36M deal. Notable players brought in on 1-year deals include WR Josh Reynolds, C Josh Myers, DL Derrick Nnadi, and SAF Andre Cisco.
Draft Selections: In the draft, New York selected Mizzou IOL Armand Membou in the first round. They took TE Mason Taylor and CB Azareye’h Thomas on Day 2. Other notable picks in the draft include SAF Malachi Moore and LB Francisco Mauigoa.
Season Predictions: The Jets start the season with two home games against the Steelers and the Bills. They then go on the road to battle the Buccaneers and end September on Monday Night Football against the Dolphins. The Jets will start the 2025 season 1-3.
October will have the Jets staying at home for the first three games of the month, hosting the Cowboys, Broncos, and Panthers before going on the road to take on the Bengals. The Jets will go 2-2 in October.
The Jets start November on a bye and then host the Browns, travel to Foxborough to play the Patriots on TNF, play the Ravens on the road, and end the month at home against the Falcons. The Jets will go 1-3 in November.
The final stretch of the season for the Jets sees them hosting the Dolphins, playing the Jaguars and Saints on the road, hosting the Patriots, and finishing the regular season on the road against the Bills. They will go 3-2 in this final stretch of the season.
Conclusion: The New York Jets will end the season with a record of 7-10. A 7-win season will put the Jets in this state of purgatory asking if they should blow it up or build on the core they have.
