The Denver Broncos expedited their rebuild in the 2024 season as they not only improved but became a playoff team. Their ability to build through the draft and create the best defense in football made life easy on their rookie QB, who had a fantastic debut campaign.
Departures: There were no serious expiring contracts on the roster this offseason, they will be returning almost the entire cast from last season. The only players they parted ways with in the offseason were QB Zach Wilson, RB Javonte Williams, LB Cody Barton, and P Riley Dixon.
Additions: Denver bolstered up an already competitive roster by signing SAF Talanoa Hufanga, LB Dre Greenlaw, TE Evan Engram, and WR Trent Sherfield to multi-year deals. They took a flyer with a one-year deal to JK Dobbins.
Draft Selections: GM George Patton put together a solid draft class. He was able to snag CB Jahdae Barron in the 1st round out of Texas. Barron will be able to play anywhere in the secondary depending on what the team needs, but projects most clearly as a nickel. They selected RB RJ Harvey out of UCF in the 2nd round. Harvey is a player who I highly regard and think he is going to be a sneaky top performer in this draft class. Other players from the 2025 draft class who I believe can be instant impact guys are Alabama LB Que Robinson and Illinois WR Pat Bryant.
Season Predictions: The Broncos open the season at home against the Titans, play two consecutive road games against the Colts and Chargers, and end September at home against the Bengals on Monday Night Football. The Broncos start the season 3-1.
Denver travels to Philadelphia to play the Eagles before heading to England to play the Jets. They have a quick turnaround from London as they play the Giants at home the following week and the Cowboys the next. Denver goes 3-1 in October.
They start November on the road against the Texans and then have two road dates against the Raiders – on Thursday Night Football – and the Chiefs before a Week 12 bye. They close November in Washington DC taking on the Commanders. They will go 1-3 in November.
The final stretch of the season sees the Broncos travel to play the Raiders, host the Packers and Jaguars, play the Chiefs in Kansas City, and finishing the season in Los Angeles against the Chargers. Denver will go 3-2 in this final stretch.
Final Thoughts: I have the Broncos going 10-7 in 2025. This may not be the season that the Broncos want to have, but the AFC is extremely competitive, and they were already so ahead of schedule in 2024. Their ceiling is 12 wins, and they could definitely reach that mark, but I am not banking on a perfect season for the Broncos.
