Arch Manning Scouting Report

Background: The fact that Arch Manning is a member of football’s royal family has been mentioned at nauseum and does not need to be mentioned again. With that comes great expectations. Manning was the top-rated quarterback in the 2023 class. From New Orleans, Louisiana, Arch played for Isidore Newman High School. Manning was a four-time all-state selection and an All-American. He helped Isidore Newman win a district title during his four years as a starter. Manning also played basketball, helping Newman win a state title in 2022. Arch Manning chose to play for Texas over Georgia, Alabama, and others.

College: Manning was a backup behind Quinn Ewers for 2023 and 2024 for the Longhorns. His patience paid off as he became the team’s starter in 2024. He struggled in the first half of the season before ending strong. He finished the season with 3,163 passing yards and 26 touchdowns.

Strengths: Arch Manning has a lively arm that allows him to make any imaginable throw. He displays the ability to throw the ball on a rope to really push it into those tight windows. Manning can throw from a variety of arm angles. He can throw off platform and get the ball across his body, can throw off one foot on the run. He can make all these throws without losing any zip on the football. Manning possesses the ideal frame in a quarterback. His large stature allows him to see through to the middle of the field and deliver the football consistently between the numbers. While he can win with his legs, he does not abandon the pocket prematurely. He makes sure to get through his progressions before stepping out to run the ball.

Weaknesses: Manning’s college production has been inconsistent. With a two-year sample size, we have not gotten a large and consistently elite product. His feet are out of sync with his upper body when he goes through his throwing motion. He relies too heavily on physical talent and ability rather than sound mechanics. His process needs to speed up. He takes too long to get through his progressions and can find the defender in his lap.

Conclusion: Arch Manning is of football royalty, and his draft profile says that he can continue that lineage. If his process can speed up without him losing confidence, he can become a dangerous football player. His production also needs to become more consistent in order for him to be relied upon as a franchise-altering player.
