School: Alabama

Class: Redshirt Junior

Position: QB

HT: 6’2

WT: 208 lbs

Background: Ty Simpson was a 5-star quarterback out of Martin, Tennessee in the class of 2022. Simpson was a top 5 quarterback and top 3 player in the state in his class. As a senior, Simpson was named the Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year after passing for 2,827 yards and 41 touchdowns for Westview High School. That was a year in which Simpson also led Westview to a Tennessee 2A state championship. Simpson was selected to play in the All-American Bowl after his senior season. Ty Simpson committed to play for Alabama over the likes of Tennessee, Texas, and others.

College: Simpson served as the backup quarterback for the Crimson Tide from 2022-2024, waiting his turn to take over. He finally got the starting position in 2025 and took the country by storm. He was named an All-SEC Second Team member after passing for 3,500 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Strengths: Simpson is an extremely smart passer who reads defenses efficiently. He never gets stuck on any single read and scans the entire field. Simpson makes impressive throws seem routine as the touch he puts on the football to put it in a spot where only his man can get it is unmatched. He does well to lead receivers into open space and opportunities for yards after the catch. His post-snap work is some of the most impressive. He manipulates the safeties with his eyes to get his receiver a desirable one on one matchup. Simpson displays a quick release to get the ball out before the pocket collapses. Simpson is an old school quarterback in the way he commands the line of scrimmage pre-snap. He sends guys in motion almost every play to take advantage of certain matchups and diagnose man or zone coverage. Simpson is also not just a sneaky runner, but a good runner. He can handle taking the ball in his own hands and finding yardage with his legs.

Weaknesses: Simpson lacks the cannon of an arm that so many prospects and NFL QBs have nowadays. He will never be on the level to consistently attack the third level of the field. He tends to abandon the pocket and leave structure too quickly, leading to chaos. While he is an accurate thrower, once the throw is 20+ yards down the field, the accuracy and touch take a nosedive.

Conclusion: Ty Simpson can be a great quarterback at the next level. He is a quick processor and has the mental side of the game down. His physical tools will never raise a ceiling, but he is a very stable option to build around.
