School: Texas A&M
Class: Junior
Position: LB
HT: 5’11
WT: 226 lbs
Background: Taurean York was recruited as a 3-star linebacker in the class of 2023 out of Temple, Texas. York was a top 80 linebacker in the class and top 175 player in Texas. He started all 4 years for Temple High School, finishing with 435 tackles in his career. He was named the UIL District Defensive MVP three times. Taurean York committed to Texas A&M over Duke, Baylor, and others.
College:As a freshman in 2023, York came in as a 3-star recruit and started all 13 games. He finished with 74 tackles and 8.5 TFLs. He was named a Freshman All-American. He was named a team captain ahead of his sophomore 2024 campaign, finishing with 82 tackles and 9.5 TFLs. He came back in 2025 for the Aggies, but his production took a slight dip. He totaled 67 tackles and 6 TFLs on his way to an All-SEC Third Team selection.
Strengths: Taurean York has what it takes to be the leader of a defense at the NFL. He was the captain of the Aggies’ defense and can be seen calling out pre-snap adjustments to his teammates on every play. He has elite athleticism for his position that he uses in all areas of defense. In coverage, York is able to get out in space and take up a large volume of the middle of the field. He can close in on throwing windows, meeting the football at the target to disrupt throws. He diagnoses run plays quickly and can trigger downhill in a hurry. He meets the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage quickly. He has the strength to shed blockers in open space to make a play on the football.
Weaknesses: York is a smaller linebacker. His height will bring problems as he will not be able to completely take away any area of the field with pure size. His short arms limit his tackling radius and can cause him to miss a high amount of tackles. Bigger and more athletic tight ends can often bully York and outmuscle him when he goes into man coverage.
Conclusion: Taurean York is an undersized linebacker who uses speed and athleticism to win. He has the instincts to diagnose plays pre-snap and he has the clear leadership traits to command a locker room. His size is something that is out of his control, but he does well in all other areas to make up for it.
