School: Texas Tech
Class: Redshirt Senior
Position: EDGE
HT: 6’3
WT: 240 lbs
Background: Romello Height was a consensus 4-star outside linebacker in the 2020 class out of Dublin, Georgia. Romello was a top 50 player in the state and a top 25 player at the position in his class. Height helped lead Dublin High School to a Class A state title as a senior in 2019. That senior season was one in which he won the Georgia Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year. He left Dublin as the school’s record holder for career sacks. Romello Height committed to play for Auburn over schools such as Miami, Kentucky, and Georgia.
College: Height did not record any stats as a true freshman in 2020, but made an impact as a freshman in 2021 with 19 tackles and 3 TFLs. After 2 seasons with Auburn, Romello transferred to USC. Height was named a starter for the Trojans but was forced to redshirt due to injury. As a redshirt sophomore in 2023 for USC, Height had 20 tackles, 6 TFLs, and 4 sacks. He hit the transfer portal, again, after 2 seasons with the Trojans. He chose to play for Georgia Tech in 2024, starting all 12 games for the Yellow Jackets. He had 2.5 sacks and led the team with 6.5 TFLs on the season. Romello, yet again, hit the portal for his final collegiate season. He called Texas Tech home for 2025. Height had his best season yet with the Red Raiders. He posted 10.5 TFLs and 9 sacks as the leader of a defense that made the CFP for the first time.
Strengths: Romello Height is a good mover on the edge with high end athletic traits. Height has a high motor that is apparent on every rep. His hands move in unison with his legs. He has very active hands, deconstructing blocks with a flurry of jabs at the point of attack. Height never stops moving his legs, constantly looking for angles to exploit and opportunities to win. Height has good bend to set the edge and take optimal angles to the quarterback. Height plays with excellent tempo and constantly is changing speeds to rock offensive tackles off their anchor. Height has a devastating spin move that attacks the inside shoulder of his opponent. His spin eats up more ground than tackles are able to cover.
Weaknesses: The biggest concern in Height’s game, ironically enough, is his size. He does not have the sand in pants to anchor and contain as a run defender. He is lacking the contact balance to survive combo blocks on the edge. Height is also an older prospect who will need to prove his value immediately. He is another one of those COVID year prospects who utilized an extra year of eligibility. Height struggles to shed blockers in open space, often getting washed out of the run game.
Conclusion: Romello Height is a savvy edge rusher with impressive bend. He is an elastic player who has plenty of tricks up his sleeve as a pass rusher. His frame does not seem to be maxed out and he could afford to add around 10 pounds of muscle to succeed at the next level.
