School: Ohio State
Class: Redshirt Junior
Position: TE
HT: 6’5
WT: 243 lbs
Background: Max Klare was a 3-star tight end out of Guilford, Indiana. Max comes from a football family as his father, uncles, and grandfather all played college football, while his brother, Luke, is a tight end at Purdue. Klare played his high school ball for St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. He was a top 70 tight end and top 40 player in Ohio in the 2022 class. Klare committed to Purdue out of St. Xavier over the likes of Duke, Georgia Tech, and others.
College: Max struggled with injuries during his career as a Boilermaker but managed to play a full 2024 campaign, when he was a Third Team All-Big 10 selection by the coaches. In his final season at Purdue, he had 51 receptions for 685 yards and 4 touchdowns. Max transferred to Ohio State with two years of eligibility remaining. Klare ultimately only spent one year with the Buckeyes. He was an All-Big 10 First Team selection after recording 43 receptions for 448 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Strengths: Klare is an elite route runner, getting in and out of his breaks smoothly. He can create separation at all three levels of the field like he is a traditional receiver. Klare shows a rare level of comfort hauling in footballs well outside his frame. He has sticky hands that provide for a large catch radius to create a friendly target for the quarterback. Max can go up with physicality to make impressive plays at the catchpoint. This bodes well for his offense in the red zone, where Klare is a threat to make a play on any given snap. Klare excels in between the hashmarks, splitting the seam vertically and settling into pockets of open grass.
Weaknesses: Klare’s lack of strength or power as a blocker is apparent when dealing with front 7 rushers. Bull rushes give Klare a world of trouble off the edge. On sharp cuts, Klare has a tendency to chop his feet from time to time. It is not a problem on every snap, but it is worth monitoring. He also has a glaring injury history that will need to be considered. Durability is a question with Max.
Conclusion: Max Klare is a tight end who has produced consistently throughout his career. He wins with speed and athleticism as a receiver, but struggles as a blocker. He will need to add functional strength and prove he can stay healthy in the NFL to be a valuable and well-rounded asset.
